Frequently Asked Questions
This page answers the questions teens may have about taking part in this research. If you have a question that isn't here, please email me at sumana.sri@cgu.edu. I'm happy to talk through anything.

Fill out a short sign-up form to see if you are eligible for the study.
If selected, you will complete a quick 10-minute survey each night for 7 days in a row.
On this survey, you’ll answer simple questions about how your day was and how you felt.
At the end of the week, you will complete one final survey about your general beliefs and attitudes.
You can answer all the surveys on your phone, tablet, or computer - whatever is convenient for you!

Just 10 minutes each night, for 7 nights in a row. You can answer the surveys at any time between 6pm and 11pm.

Yes. This study has been reviewed and approved by Claremont Graduate University's Institutional Review Board (IRB #5373).
The IRB is an independent group of researchers and community members whose job is to make sure studies are safe and ethical for participants.
You will not be asked to do anything physical, take anything, or share anything that can put you at risk.
You can always withdraw from the study at any time - no questions asked!

The daily surveys will ask about your mood, daily activities, and challenges.
The sign up sheet asks about your age, gender, and contact information.
The final survey asks about your beliefs and attitudes towards everyday experiences.
We do not collect anything beyond what's needed for the research.

Your answers will be kept confidential.
Your name is never connected to your responses in the data.
Only the research team will see what you share, and we follow strict university rules for handling research data.
Your contact information will be deleted after the study is complete. It will NOT be shared with any third parties or mailing lists.
None of your answers will be shared with your parents.

You will be paid $25 in the form of a Visa e-gift card. It will be emailed to you directly within 24 hours of completing the final survey.

Yes. You can stop at any point, without giving a reason. It will not hurt my feelings.

The data of all the teens participating in this study will be analyzed as a group. I will look for patterns across everyone’s responses to understand teenagers in general.
Your answers will be anonymized before analyzing the data. I will only share my general findings in my publications, not your individual data.
The contact information collected will be deleted once the study is completed.
On the final survey, you can choose whether you wish to recieve a general report about the findings from this study, and if you would like a personal report of your data. This report will be sent only to you.
Nothing you share will be shared with your parents.

No, I will not be sharing anything you write in the surveys with your parents. Your answers are private and confidential.
However, if you explicitly mention wanting to harm yourself or others, I am obligated to report it.
